Cora M. Owen, a native of Maine, grew up in the village of Five Islands on Sheepscot Bay. She was the oldest of eight children brought up to attend church and Sunday School at the local Baptist Church. Cora accepted Christ as her Saviour at age nine. She wrote her first poem about Him that same year. Since then, she has written more than 20,000 Christian poems. Many of them have been published, the first in 1954. Mrs. Owen has been a Bible teacher since age 20. At age 86, she is still teaching. She teaches a Sunday School class of women at Bible Baptist Church in Wiscasset, Maine, where she is a member. She writes her own material for the class, guided by the Holy Spirit. Her first book of poems, “Timeless Treasure,” about the Bible, was published in February 2006. She has two sons, four grandchildren, and four great-grandsons. She excitedly awaits the birth of her first great-granddaughter.
